My expertise is to help companies with their financial and strategic issues. The world is more complicated, more unpredictable and more volatile than ever. Collaboration with other and sometimes very different parties to find solutions is now the norm. I do not look for the right answers, but rather try to ask the right questions. What do we know? More importantly, what do we not yet know?
Thanks to my 20 years of experience in the public and private sector, I can build bridges between different sectors. The government speaks a different language than banks and they speak a different language than non-profits. Thinking is still too much happening within silo’s. We must work together to tackle the major problems of our time. I am always curious, inquisitive and have not yet finished learning. That's why I started studying again when I was 49 years old. It was wonderful to be back in class.
Since studying environmental economics and policy in New York, I have worked on sustainable solutions. I believe in social entrepreneurship where market- and social challenges in my eyes go hand in hand. Perseverance is perhaps the most important thing.
I have a typical portfolio career, which was not really intentional. From consulting in Washington DC to emission rights trading on Wall Street back to the Netherlands to work for the government, and from there to ABN AMRO and then Rabobank. I ended up with a nature organisation. Impact can be generated from each of those roles. Purpose comes from within, and is not determined by the job you have.
You are responsible
We all have a role model, or maybe several, but ultimately you are responsible. My motto is: "If I aim high, I shoot better."
